We walked out from the airport, some of us as soon as you left, the rest after we had seen the plane fly away. Vee sighed.
“It’s hard to see her go, uh?” Amanda asked.
“Harder than I’d like to admit” he responded, more to himself than to Amanda.
“That’s a good sign. It means you are truly in love” she smiled.
Everyone was silent for a while. Joana interrupted everyone’s trains of thought. “Attack incoming in 3, 2, 1…”
The floor in front of us exploded, sending dirt and sand flying everywhere. Joana looked up, and gestured like she had guns in her hands, making two spaceships explode before they could get anywhere near you. Amanda concentrated on her surroundings.
“It’s an alien invasion. Apparently the Confederacy of Extremely Politically Correct Sentient Beings and Non-Beings is not amused with our activity in town” she explained.
“Is that a joke?” I asked.
“Do you think it’s a joke?” Amanda asked, in a bad temper, pointing towards the sky.
Thousands of spaceships were entering the atmosphere and attacking town. Vee looked up and measured the forces.
“We cannot stop them in a frontal attack, we need to be smart about this. We need to evacuate” he sentenced.
“The Library City dimension is an option” Erin proposed.
“I don’t think so. The citizens would be exposed. Most people would probably go to the tunnels” he said.
Joana’s face lit. “Then we need to take them to the Arc. Let me guide them”.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Frank asked.
An explosion of energy destroyed Frank’s body and splattered blood and organs everywhere. His body reassembled right on the spot.
“Motherfuckers!” he shouted at the aliens.
The aliens shot again, with similar effects. Nobody paid attention, though. Frank would catch up, somehow.
“Joana, I don’t know what it is, but do it. We’ll try to stop the aliens for as long as we can” Vee shouted.
Joana disappeared swiftly. Jennifer, who had been part of the first group to leave the airport, joined us once again to fight the aliens, alongside Liza Kulmala. Spaceships were coming from everywhere, and though they surrounded us pretty quickly, we were somehow managing to contain them. They soon started to deploy their army, thousands of soldiers from different races fighting with topnotch weapons.
As the first few soldiers approached us, the floor exploded below them and a large drilling ship appeared from the underground. The aliens were shred to pieces, there alien organs and alien blood being splattered everywhere in a gruesome show of power. Joana opened a door and shouted.
“Come in, now!”
Frank appeared out of nowhere, running between the enemy soldier ranks, and jumped inside while shouting.
“Serves them right! I think I like you a lot, Joana!”
We all jumped inside and Joana closed the door. A few attacks hit the drill ship, which withstood without problems. Joana operated the ship, which sunk into the ground and started to travel through the tunnels and the layers of ground between them, descending into the ground at high speed.
“Thank you for saving us there, Joana” Vee said.
“I’ve managed to put everyone into the Arc. Only you were left” she said.
The ship stopped in one of the lowest levels, were Joanna walked outside. You all followed and walked for quite a stretch. She guided you to a giant metal door which had no decorations, and opened it. She let you into the building.
“This is the Arc” Joana explained as she closed the door behind you, before the aliens that had followed you could get inside. “It is a fortress that can resist the end of all universes and keep a community alive inside”.
You were all amazed at the gardens, prairies and rivers that flowed in a light that could not be differentiated from sunlight.
